Can Castor Oil be used as a moisturizer?
Yes. Castor Oil is rich in skin-nourishing nutrients that deliver deep hydration, leaving your complexion soft, supple, and luminous. When used as a daily moisturizer, it helps create an even, balanced tone while supporting the skin’s natural resilience and reducing the visible signs of fine lines and wrinkles.
Can I drink Castor Oil?
When taken internally, castor oil acts as a stimulant laxative that can cause cramping and urgent bowel movements. Elham’s Liquid Gold™ is crafted for topical rituals only and is not intended for ingestion.
How should I store my Castor Oil?
Castor Oil is naturally stabilized with Vitamin E, which helps preserve its purity without the need for synthetic preservatives. To maintain its integrity, every bottle of Elham’s Liquid Gold™ is housed in protective amber glass. Store in a cool, dry place away from heat and sunlight, and ensure the cap is always tightly sealed. For best results, do not mix directly with other oils or essential oils, as this can compromise its natural integrity.
Will castor oil clog my pores?
No. Castor Oil has a low comedogenic rating of 0–1, meaning it is considered non-comedogenic. This makes it unlikely to clog pores or trigger irritation, allowing most skin types to enjoy its deep hydration and balancing benefits with ease.
Do I need to use a pack on my body when applying Castor Oil?
You can apply Castor Oil directly to your skin, and it will still provide hydration and nourishment. However, pairing it with a Castor Oil Pack elevates the ritual and increases the power of the benefits. The warmth and gentle compression of the pack enhance absorption, encourage relaxation, and support the body’s natural flow. The oil and the pack are designed to complement each other, creating a deeper, more restorative experience.
Can I use Castor Oil on my period?
Yes. Many women enjoy the comfort of castor oil during their cycle and find it helps ease cramps and tension. Others prefer to pause, especially if their flow is heavy or their body feels more sensitive in those first few days. Experiences differ, so listen to your body and honor what feels best for you.
Can I use Castor Oil during pregnancy or while breastfeeding?
Do not use castor oil during pregnancy, particularly over the abdomen, as it may stimulate uterine contractions. While it has been used in traditional practices to encourage labor, it is essential to consult your healthcare provider before considering castor oil in any form during pregnancy.
For breastfeeding and postpartum care, castor oil can be a supportive ally for gentle scar massage and hormone-friendly rituals. As with all wellness practices, we advise speaking with your provider before introducing it into your routine.
How do I clean my Castor Oil Pack?
Ideally, your goal is not to wash your pack. Washing can cause oil to seep into the outer “less mess” layer, making it harder to work with and shortening its natural lifecycle.
Tips to extend the life of your pack
✓ Use only 1 tbsp of fresh Castor Oil with each application
✓ Keep the oil in the center of the pack, away from the seams
✓ Avoid washing whenever possible
If you choose to wash
- In a bowl, mix warm water with 2–4 tbsp baking soda and a little natural dish soap. Soak your pack overnight. (The baking soda helps pull the oil out of the fabric.)
- In the morning, hand wash with warm water and natural dish soap, wringing it out thoroughly.
- Place the outer layer against an old tea towel, roll it up, and blot out the excess oil.
- Hang or lay flat to dry.
Avoid using the washing machine. Castor Oil is thick and can saturate the fabric, damage the protective outer layer, and leave residue in your machine. For best results, avoid machine washing and follow our gentle hand-cleaning method to keep your pack fresh and effective.
Keep in mind: frequent washing may shorten the life of your pack, so gentle care and mindful storage will help it last longer.
When should I replace my Castor Oil Pack with a new one?
Your pack will naturally wear over time as it absorbs oil. On average, most people replace their pack every 2–3 months with regular use, or after approximately 60 uses. If you notice the fabric becoming overly saturated, stiff, or carrying an odor that doesn’t wash out, it is time for a fresh one. Replacing your pack ensures that you are not applying oxidized oil on your body, which is important for maintaining both effectiveness and purity.
To extend the life of your pack:
- Store it in a glass container (like a large mason jar) between uses, and away from sunlight.
- Refresh with a small amount of oil each session rather than oversaturating. A little goes a long way!
- Keep a dedicated pack for each body area if you use castor oil in multiple ways.
Regular replacement keeps your ritual clean, effective, and aligned with the healing integrity of Elham’s Liquid Gold™
On which side of my Castor Oil Pack do I apply the oil?
Always apply the oil to the soft organic cotton layer of your pack, not the outer protective layer. The cotton is designed to absorb and hold the oil against your skin, while the outer layer keeps it contained so your ritual stays comfortable and mess-free.
How much Castor Oil should I pour on my pack?
For your very first use, saturate your pack with about 2 tbsp of fresh castor oil to prime the fabric. After that, you only need 1 tbsp of oil for each session.
Keeping the oil in the center of the pack (away from seams) helps reduce mess and extends the life of your pack.
Will Castor Oil Packs affect my medications, hormone therapy, birth control, IUD, or supplements?
Castor Oil Packs are used externally and have no known contraindications or interactions with medications, hormone replacement therapy, birth control methods, IUDs, or supplements. Since every body is unique, we always recommend checking in with your healthcare provider if you have specific concerns about your personal regimen.
Can I share my Castor Oil Pack with another person?
Do not do this! The fabric naturally absorbs oil from each use, along with residues and toxins released from the body. For hygiene and effectiveness, each person should have their own dedicated pack. This keeps the ritual clean, safe, and aligned with the healing integrity of Elham’s Liquid Gold™
Is it messy?
Castor Oil Packs are known for being messy, which is why ours were created with a less-mess design. While not completely mess-free, they are far cleaner than a DIY pack. We recommend wearing an old T-shirt over your pack during use, just in case. Over time, the fabric will naturally absorb oil and should be replaced after about 60 uses.
Do I have to add heat?
No. Extra heat is not needed. Our Castor Oil Packs are designed to naturally hold in your body’s warmth, allowing the oil to absorb effectively and keeping your ritual simple and mess-free.
Can I use any cloth for my Castor Oil Pack?
We recommend using only organic cotton or wool for Castor Oil Packs. Other fabrics, including bamboo or velour, often go through heavy chemical processing, and old clothing may contain dyes, bleach, or flame retardants you would not want absorbed into your skin. Choosing pure, organic materials ensures your ritual stays as clean and supportive as possible.
